We all know how difficult dusting can be.

Your home is dusty, you clean it, and then dust “miraculously” reappears…over and over again. Rinse and repeat!

And while you might feel like throwing your hands up in the air in surrender and letting the dust have its way, it’s definitely not a good idea to stop dusting.

Dust comprises different elements; skin cells, hair, animal hair, dirt, pollen, etc. No one wants to breathe this stuff in.

So, to keep dust at bay, it’s important to dust regularly. However, I don’t know about you, but the last thing I want to do on a weekend is dust my house.

Fortunately, there are things you can do to simplify your dusting chores. Here are some great tips that can help you keep the dust bunnies at bay and get your life back…sneeze free!

Why it’s important to dust

Dust particles vary in composition. Most likely, the dust in your home comprises dead skin cells, hair, and pet dander (if you have pets). However, it may also harbor more dangerous elements, such as microscopic bugs.

As the dust continues to build up, it eventually forms into those infamous “dust bunnies”; big chunks of dust that you find when you pull out the furniture to vacuum.

Dusting reduces your risk of illness and allergies. Most dust is not dangerous, but it can trigger mild allergies and ailments.

This can include:

  • – Coughing
  • – Eye irritation
  • – Sneezing

For asthma and hay-fever sufferers, dust can be a huge irritant that triggers an allergic reaction. Also, a thick layer of dust can turn a beautiful piece of furniture into an ugly, unkempt eyesore.

To help make your dusting chores easier, here are 16 dusting hacks that can change the way you dust forever!

  1. Pull out those coffee filters and get to work, cleaning dust from those big dust attractors; computer and television screens.
  2. Wrap a butter knife in an old rag and use to easily clean out air vent covers.
  3. Did your Swiffer pads run out? Attach wax paper to the bottom of your Swiffer, and you’re good to go!
  4. Lint rollers do so much more than pick up stray pet hairs from your clothes. Use a lint roller inside your purse to easily pull out dust, hair and bits of paper.
  5. Another great use for your lint roller? Rub across your lampshades to pick up dust and lint – fast and easy.
  6. Wipe car wax on your air vents to keep dust from building up for as much as a year.
  7. Wrap each blade of your ceiling fan in an old pillowcase, one by one, to easily remove dust without letting it fall down on top of both you and the floor in the process!
  8. If you have a heavy build-up of dust, pour a little fabric softener onto your dust cloth to help prevent clouds of dust from billowing into the air.
  9. Use old paintbrushes to dust into hard to reach areas.
  10. Soak an old sock into vinegar and use it to wipe the top and bottom of your blinds quickly and easily.
  11. If you can’t wash your soft toys, place them in a plastic bag with baking soda to clean them.
  12. Use a squeegee to rid your furniture and carpets of stubborn pet hair!
  13. Used fabric softener sheets work great for cleaning baseboards!
  14. Lay out wax paper on top of your cupboards to prevent dust from building up. Remember to toss the paper and replace with new from time to time.
  15. When dusting, move from top to bottom so you’re not getting already clean surfaces dirty again!
  16. Move everything off of the surface that you’re cleaning at one time. It’s faster than removing and dusting under one item at a time.
